The website of the redundant private limited company EPACE has been shut down. This welcome step which will be followed by the winding up of the company marks a great day for Ireland’s electrical contracting industry. It was NECIs Industry wide survey of 2008 in which hundreds of contractors described EPACE as bully’s, which highlighted EPACE as the scourge of the electrical contracting industry. This private company which was set up by the parties who signed up to the unconstitutional Registered Employment Agreement portrayed itself as some sort of government appointed body and passed on information it unlawfully obtained from electrical contractors to the TEEU union.
The company was funded by unauthorised deductions from payments into the Construction Workers Pension Scheme and has squandered in excess of 2 million euro of electricians and their employers money since it was set up. Annual payments to the TEEU and the ECA / CIF (Electrical Contractors Association / Construction Industry Federation) were made from EPACE. The company currently has in excess of seven hundred and fifty thousand euro in the bank and no doubt the TEEU and the ECA / CIF will scramble to get their hands on as much of this money as they can. NECI can confirm that currently the TEEU want to put 50% of the fund into the CWPS Benevolent /Health trust where the benefits are given out by a panel of senior Trade Unionists and the ECA want to put 50% of the fund into the CIF Employers Benevolent fund, which of course only CIF members can gain access to.
The current directors of EPACE can expect to find themselves before the courts if they proceed with the smash and grab of funds much of which was built up with unauthorised deductions taken from both non union and non ECA / CIF members. It took us many years to unravel the operation of EPACE but NECI is now well poised to expose their activities to the entire Electrical Contracting Industry.
